As we drove through the gates of Anant Heritage, what instantly caught our attention were the swings hanging under an array of banyan, coconut and several other flowering trees. They offered a pleasant shade to the colorful children’s play area.

Right in the midst of the lush greenery stood the off-white heritage bungalow, shining brightly under the evening sun. It featured rust-colored jharokha-style windows and intricate lattice walls, adding an old-world charm to the facade.

The visuals were reminiscent of my ancestral village, where kids swinging under banyan trees surrounded by sprawling green fields are a common sight even today.

After we parked our car and reached the reception, large framed photographs of Tipeshwar’s tigers left us mesmerized! One tiger was yawning, another was relaxing with her beautiful cubs, while the others were staring ferociously, probably at the photographer.

Built in 1938, Anant Heritage Agro Tourism is a tranquil homestay located around 20 minutes away from Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary’s Sunna Gate. So, if you’re planning a visit to the forest to see the big cats, this is a picturesque and comfortable place to stay.

Top 3 Highlights Of Our Stay At Anant Heritage – Tipeshwar Homestay

# The 2 balconies with verdant views

It was a total surprise when we walked into our room and found two different doors inside. They led to two large balconies. The first balcony offered views of the verdant fields behind the bungalow and the open-air dining area below. The other balcony gave us a peek into the road and surrounding trees, along with the sunset. These were enough to make our day, and make us feel one with nature.

# The raw natural spaces

If you’ve ever experienced countryside life, this place has the capability to transport you to those simpler and serene days. With fields on one side, wooden slide hanging from the massive Banyan tree, thick foliage offering ample green therapy and almost camouflaging the bungalow, it seamlessly blends with the natural landscape of the area.

A lawn behind the building, which is used as a dining area, adds to the outdoor experiences of the stay. It extends to another roofed open-air dining shed.

# The delicious & homely local cuisine

We had two meals at this homestay and both meals reminded us of home. Yet, there were those distinct flavors and masalas of southern Maharashtra sprinkled in the dishes, which was a pleasant change from the continental and Chinese cuisines most places offer these days. I will share more details about the food we had here in the upcoming sections.

The Room At Anant Heritage – Tipeshwar Homestay

Anant Heritage Agro Tourism offers 5 types of air-conditioned rooms with a total capacity of 25 guests at a time. You will find dorm rooms, twin-sharing bedrooms, suite rooms and newly-built cottages.

We stayed in the Gold Room, which featured an earthy terracotta tile flooring with monochrome borders. Used widely across traditional homes in north India, the floor offered a classical appeal to the cream-hued room.

The brick-colored bed in the center added a pop of color to the subtlety and simplicity of the large and spacious room. The highlight though, as mentioned earlier, were the two balconies where we spent some quiet time admiring the nature around us.

The room also had an antique cupboard, two sofa chairs, kettle, dental kit, fresh towels, and enough charging points. What you will need to bring along with you are your shampoos and other bathing essentials, besides toilet papers and tissues.

Also, I was extremely scared about finding insects in the room, as it is a very old property, even though it has been renovated recently. Luckily, we didn’t come across any insects in the room and it was quite well-maintained and clean.

The Food At Anant Heritage – Tipeshwar Homestay

The homestay serves simple, homely meals cooked by local women who come in from the nearby village. On weekends, they also serve Varhadi meals, which is a mild-spicy cuisine indigenous to the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

Though we had visited on a weekday, we requested at least one Varhadi dish for dinner. They happily agreed to make Rassa Patodi –– steamed/fried gram flour vadi (flat savory cakes) cooked in a spicy and tangy gravy. Flavored with Varhadi spices, it’s a vegetarian protein alternative for Maharashtrian households.

I’ve tried this dish in Nagpur before and the spice level was beyond our tolerance capacity. However, the milder version made here was simply perfect, bursting with flavors and paired beautifully with both rotis and rice.

The dinner thali also had a dry Aloo Gobi, Moong Dal, Roasted Papad, and Gulab Jamun along with rice and rotis. All the dishes were simple, flavorful and easy on the palate.

For breakfast the next morning, we had piping hot Methi Parathas, which were equally delectable and seasoned with mild spices.

Another wonderful aspect of the food here is that the ingredients are freshly purchased after receiving the orders. This helps avoid food wastage and ensures that you get to eat fresh, hot meals.

Cons Of Anant Heritage – Tipeshwar Homestay

The only cons of a stay here is that they don’t offer a few essentials like toilet papers, bathing kits and television. Also, since they freshly curate and prepare all the meals, you need to inform them at least 2-3 hours in advance, if you’re going to dine inside the property.

Sometimes, the cooking can get delayed, depending on availability of ingredients. However, you can only rely on their food while you’re here, as we didn’t find any restaurant in close vicinity.

TWT Experience Summary Of Anant Heritage – Tipeshwar Homestay

Right from the moment we drove into the place, to the time we exited, we thoroughly enjoyed soaking in the rustic green landscape of the place, the antique charm of the heritage bungalow, and the delicious local food. Swinging away under the shade of the banyan tree further added to the countryside appeal of the stay.

Despite being a traditional homestay, it offered most of the modern comforts you would need around a forest. The staff was also friendly and happy to answer all our questions regarding the tiger safari. Overall, it proved to be a value-for-money stay in Tipeshwar worth recommending to you.
