How often does a highway restaurant leave a lasting impression on you? Having gone on several road trips across the country, I can safely say that most eateries on Indian highways are usually either too unhygienic, or serve very average food.

But when we found a gem of a veg restaurant on the Bangalore-Mangalore Highway, we ended up eating there thrice! Dhruvathare is popular among travelers commuting to the nearby getaways from Bangalore, including celebrities.

Let me take you through the reasons and must-try dishes at Dhruvathare restaurant.

Best Part About Dhruvathare Restaurant

Located around 2 hours away from Bangalore, I remember how we had started for our road trips early in the morning and reached Dhruvathare right in time for breakfast. We liked the Karnataka-style breakfasts so much during our first visit that we stopped here again while returning from Coorg, and visited this place for the third time during our Chikmagalur trip from Bangalore.

From the softest and spongiest Thatte Idli to irresistibly crisp Dosa, fluffiest Set Dosa to wholesome meals, Dhruvathare offers delicious and satisfying food for hungry travelers. Their prices are also quite pocket-friendly and it’s pet-friendly as well. Plus, we were thrilled to find such a hygienic restaurant with a clean washroom on the highway.

Top Dishes To Try At Dhruvathare Restaurant

# Thatte Idli – Soft, spongy and fluffy, the Thatte Idli here is sprinkled with grated carrot and coriander leaves for a touch of color. All dosas and idlis are served with  coconut/tomato chutneys and a mixed vegetable kurma (curry).

# Set Dosa – With the perfect amount of browning on top, these fluffy, porous and savory pancakes are pan-fried to perfection. Every bite melts in your mouth as soon as you pop it in.

# Plain Dosa – Served in the shape of a cone, this delightful dosa is crisp on the outside and slightly spongy on the inner side.

South Indian Thali – Their thali comes with little bowls of Karnataka-style coconut-based curries, sambar, rasam, salad, tamarind rice, plain rice, poori and a vada

# Akki Rotti – A flatbread made from rice flour, this roti is a staple food in several parts of Karnataka. It is usually soft and teamed with any local curry.

# Ragi Dosa – A calcium-rich dosa sprinkled with onions, their version is airy and pairs beautifully with their coconut chutney and potato curry.

Ambience & Location Of Dhruvathare Restaurant

The interiors of Dhruvathare is done in a minimalistic fashion with lots of windows that let in natural light. Though they have simple wooden furniture, the place is very neatly-maintained, which is one of their biggest strengths.

Another plus point is the location, as both the branches of Dhruvathare are situated just around 100 kilometers from Bangalore and make for the perfect pitstop for people visiting getaways like Hassan, Coorg, Chikmagalur, Sakleshpur, Mangalore and Udupi. They also have lodging options that make it convenient for travelers who wish to stay back in the area.

The biggest highlights of our three visits to Dhruvathare were the impeccable hygiene standards, quality and taste of the food. Every item was delicious, but my favorite picks from here will always be the Thatte Idli, Set Dosa and Plain Dosa

While driving from Bangalore, we went in for fulfilling Karnataka-style breakfasts. And while returning from Coorg and Chikmagalur, we stopped for a hearty lunch here.
