Hyderabad has always been known for its diversity, rich flavors, and cultural heritage. But since January 2026, the city has been witnessing a refreshing new addition to its culinary and lifestyle landscape — a monthly community event called the Vegan Bazar by Plantarium.

Much more than just a marketplace, this unique gathering is quickly becoming a movement celebrating plant-based food, sustainable living, and conscious shopping.

For many visitors, including myself, the event has become a positive community space and rare opportunity to discover creative vegan dishes, eco-friendly products, educational workshops, and cultural performances, all in one vibrant setting.

A Paradise for Plant-Based Food Lovers in Hyderabad

One of the biggest attractions of the Vegan Bazar is undoubtedly the wide range of plant-based food stalls.

Hyderabad’s vegan and vegetarian community has long been searching for more spaces where they can explore exciting plant-based versions of popular dishes — and this event delivers exactly that.

Visitors get to relish a tempting spread of vegan food options such as:

  • Biryanis made with jackfruit or mock meats
  • Plant-based burgers and sandwiches
  • Dairy-free ice creams
  • Vegan baked desserts such as cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies, brownies and more
  • Vegan cheese-based dishes
  • Fresh juices and coolers
  • Homemade vegan sweets and snacks

Personally, as a vegan, I miss baked desserts the most, because most patisseries don’t keep even a single plant-based option. But in this bazar, I find myself spoilt for choices and truly enjoy dessert-hopping! 🙂

Another heartwarming aspect is that many of the entrepreneurs participating in the bazar are home chefs and small business owners of various age groups, making the event a great platform for supporting local talent.

Even people who are not vegan often walk away surprised at how delicious and innovative plant-based food can be.

For curious foodies or new vegans, the event offers a wonderful introduction to how traditional flavors can be recreated with delicious alternatives for dairy, meat, or eggs — such as oat or almond milk, peanut curd or cashew cheese, mock chicken made with soy and wheat, or tofu and gramflour-based bhurjis and omelettes.

More Than Food: Sustainable Shopping and Eco-Friendly Brands

While the food stalls attract many visitors, the Vegan Bazar experience goes far beyond just eating.

The event also features a variety of eco-conscious lifestyle products. Visitors often discover items such as:

  • Handmade natural soaps and personal care products
  • Sustainable fashion and clothing
  • Eco-friendly household products
  • Handmade crafts and artisanal goods
  • Natural wellness products

Some of the products I discovered through this bazar, such as reusable steel straws and tooth powders, helped me reduce plastic usage in my daily life.

In a city where sustainable shopping options are still growing, the bazar truly provides a rare opportunity to explore ethical brands that offer practical alternatives to everyday products.

Workshops and Cultural Performances That Build Community

Another aspect that makes the Vegan Bazar stand out from typical flea markets is its community-driven programming.

Each edition of the event features interactive workshops and artistic performances designed to inspire creativity and learning.

Some of the workshops organized so far include:

  • Vegan curd-making sessions (an eye-opener)
  • Art workshops using natural colors (one of my personal favorites)
  • Vegan omelette making workshop
  • DIY sustainability activities
  • Educational discussions about plant-based nutrition
  • DIY bioenzyme cleaners for your homes (much needed for the health of our families and the planet)
  • Composting workshop (for a zero-waste lifestyle)

These sessions help visitors understand that veganism is not just about food — it is about creating a lifestyle that respects animals, people, and the planet.

Alongside the workshops, the event often hosts classical dance performances and other cultural showcases, adding a beautiful artistic dimension to the gathering.

But one of the biggest highlights of these events for me are the emotional and impactful dance performances by Harsha Maheshwari. Disguised as animals, she conveys how they feel the same emotions as we humans do, through soul-stirring expressions and moves.

Pet Adoption Drive by Citizens for Animals: Giving Indie Puppies a Home

Beyond food, shopping, and sustainability, the Vegan Bazar also creates space for a pet adoption drive in collaboration with Citizens for Animals. This thoughtful initiative focuses on helping rescued indie puppies find loving homes, while also spreading awareness about ethical pet adoption.

Visitors get the chance to interact with the puppies, understand their stories, and learn about the responsibilities of pet parenting. Volunteers from Citizens for Animals guide potential adopters through the process, ensuring that each animal goes to a safe and caring home.

The initiative also highlights an important message — “Adopt, Don’t Shop” — encouraging people to choose adoption over buying pets, especially when so many indie animals are in need of care and shelter.

For the little fur babies, it can mean a life-changing opportunity to move from the streets to a forever home.

A Zero-Waste Event Setting a Powerful Example

One of the most inspiring aspects of the Vegan Bazar is its commitment to sustainability and zero-waste practices.

Unlike many public events where disposable plates, plastic cups, and single-use cutlery are the norm, the organizers have taken a completely different approach.

In collaboration with Visva Foundation, the event provides visitors with reusable steel cutlery for their meals.

After finishing their food, visitors are given bioenzyme cleaning solutions to rinse the utensils before returning them to the team.

This simple but powerful system ensures that the event significantly reduces waste and discourages single-use plastic.

Such initiatives show how community events can still remain enjoyable and convenient while prioritizing environmental responsibility. For conscious families, it is the perfect platform to showcase eco-friendly practices to their kids.

Also, for a lot of visitors including myself, this experience becomes an eye-opener about how small lifestyle changes in our daily life can collectively make a big difference.

The Vision Behind Vegan Bazar Hyderabad

The Vegan Bazar is organized by Poornima Deepika, who had started Hyderabad’s first vegan store — Plantarium. She is a passionate advocate of plant-based living and sustainability.

Her team’s goal is to create a welcoming space where people can learn about veganism without judgment or pressure.

By making the event free to attend, they have ensured that anyone — from curious newcomers to long-time vegans — can walk in, explore, taste new food, and connect with like-minded people.

It’s also incredible to see how the bazar offers a beautiful platform to small entrepreneurs of all age groups — from a young girl who brings her matcha specialties to an elderly woman who sells Mangalgiri cotton sarees.

The monthly format also allows the community to grow organically, with new stalls, ideas, and collaborations emerging every time.

The event has built a loyal following among Hyderabad’s vegans, vegetarians, sustainability enthusiasts, animal lovers, and conscious consumers.

Many visitors now eagerly wait for the next edition to discover new food creators and eco-friendly brands.

Why Events Like Vegan Bazar Matter Today

Across the world, conversations around climate change, sustainable food systems, and ethical consumption are becoming increasingly urgent.

Events like the Vegan Bazar play an important role in making these ideas accessible and practical for everyday people.

Instead of presenting sustainability as a strict or difficult lifestyle, the event shows that conscious living can be joyful, delicious, creative, and community-driven.

By bringing together food, art, education, and sustainability, the bazar creates an environment where people naturally start asking questions like:

  • Can plant-based food be just as satisfying?
  • How can I reduce plastic in my daily life?
  • Are there cruelty-free alternatives to the products I use?

This curiosity becomes the first step toward adopting more mindful habits.
