There are some eateries that keep pulling you towards them again and again. Bread & Chocolate in Pondicherry is one such cafe I’ve been to on all my trips. Thanks to the authentic French bakery experience created by owner-head chef Daniel Trulson.

In this article, let me take you through why Bread & Chocolate is considered one of the best cafes in Pondicherry, the must-try dishes here and more.

The Best Part About Bread & Chocolate Pondicherry

As the name suggests, this cafe is literally all about bread and chocolate — but not any ordinary kind. They create their own artisanal bean-to-bar chocolates & sourdough breads that are a class apart.

Their breads are incredibly soft and fluffy on the inside but crusty on the outside, while their chocolates carry a rich and dense flavor of dark chocolate that make them irresistibly scrumptious.

Personally, I also love the fact that a majority of dishes on their menu are marked vegan or vegan-customizable.

Must-Try Food & Drinks At Bread & Chocolate Pondicherry

Bread & Chocolate’s menu has a variety of baked goodies such as pancakes, shakshuka, sandwiches, wraps and some heavenly beverages. Here are some of the dishes we loved at this cafe:

# Tofu Scramble Sourdough Toast – The egg-like texture of the scrambled tofu combined with their Harissa (African red chilli sauce) and Chimichurri (Argentinian raw parsley sauce) compliments their sour bread beautifully, creating a dance on the palate.

# B&C Signature Chocolate Toast – You’ll get over Nutella after trying this. Topped with shavings of their Mason & Co 75% dark chocolate with sea salt, the sourdough toast surprised our palate and made us wonder — how can salt & chocolate taste so good together?

# Orange Cake – Topped with juicy orange marmalade, this citrusy cake is dense and buttery soft despite being vegan.

# Chocolate bon bons – Imagine cute little cubes of dark chocolate filled with a variety of creamy and nutty praline. Available in their store area, you can pick up the flavors you like to take back home.

# ChillOut Chocolate Smoothie – Honestly, I never imagined a chocolate smoothie made from coconut milk to be this delectable. Again, it’s their Mason & Co drinking chocolate topped with chocolate shavings that create the magic together.

# Mason & Co Mocha – Clearly, we couldn’t get enough of their chocolate. 😂 So we ended with a coffee that had their signature dark chocolate. Made with oat milk, it was truly divine.

Ambience & Locations Of Bread & Chocolate Pondicherry

Bread & Chocolate is present in two locations in Pondicherry. Their Auroville branch is the older and most popular cafe, but the one we visited in Pondicherry main town was also fantastic in terms of both food and ambience. Both the outlets have minimalist wooden interiors with an open-air space and a glass-covered indoor space, offering a refreshing view for diners.

TWT Experience Summary Of Bread & Chocolate Pondicherry

I am someone who can’t resist a good sourdough bread & luscious dark chocolate. It’s as if my happy hormones get activated!

And I’ve had them at numerous cafes in India. But Bread & Chocolate serves some of the best versions of these goodies. You will definitely not want to miss dining here during your trip to Pondicherry, more so if you’re a fan of sourdough and cacao.
