As we drove past the gates of Hyatt Place Hampi, a sprawling lawn lined by coconut trees welcomed us, exuding an almost tropical vibe. The modern beige-gray building was partly camouflaged by the lush greenery that enveloped the hotel.
When we stepped inside, the hotel’s warm and thoughtful welcoming ceremony instantly refreshed us, and made us forget about our long and tiring drive from Hyderabad. A staff member dressed in a traditional white South Indian saree received us with aarti (customary Indian ritual of welcoming guests with a fire lamp). She applied teeka (vermilion) on our foreheads and sprinkled some auspicious rice grains on us. Then, we were offered wet towels infused with the beautiful aroma of rose, followed by welcome drinks – litchi-based mocktails.
Comfortably seated at the reception, we noticed how Hyatt Place has created a vibrant space that seamlessly blends in Hampi’s signature traits, but with contemporary twists. A statement piece stood at the center of the lobby, which was modeled around the boulders of the heritage town. Yet, the two pink-hued rocks exhibited a more chiseled and new-age look, unlike Hampi’s rustic, textured boulders.
As we walked further inside, we realized the theme of Hampi extends to the hallways, rooms and elevators, with several walls adorning framed photographs and artworks narrating tales of the historical destination.

# 1. Enwrapped by a verdant landscape
The outdoor areas of Hyatt Place Hampi lets you bask in the glory of nature and relax in its cocoons of greenery. The landscape of the backyard, especially, is a real visual treat. Here, you will find multi-level lawns flanked by dense foliage and a variety of trees featuring fresh blooms – plumerias, orchids, roses and more. There are enough benches and swings placed, from where you can enjoy the view.
Right in the middle of this green vista, a large swimming pool adds a pop of blue. A narrow stone path from here leads you to the children’s play area and their own organic farm, where they grow several herbs and green vegetables such as spinach, mint and coriander.

As a dog mom, I feel truly happy to see more and more hotels becoming pet-friendly. But, Hyatt Place Hampi goes above and beyond just allowing pets into the hotel.
They have actually created a heartwarming play area for fur babies in their backyard, ensuring that even they have a gala time here. The lightly-fenced pet lawn features an array of colorful tyres and hollow drums, through which your pets can enter and do their signature zoomies. There’s also enough empty space on the lawn for them to run around, play fetch ball, or simply release their hyper energies.
# 3. Candle-light dinner by the poolside & gazing at the star-lit sky
One evening, we sat down for hours on their poolside loungers and watched the sunset make way for darker skies, studded with glittering stars. It was therapeutic to hear the rustle of the wind blow against the branches of the trees. The brightly-lit pool overlooking the night sky made for a stunning natural painting.
This star-gazing session was followed by a candlelight dinner arranged for us by the poolside. The table was beautifully set up, with candle holders featuring laser-cut lotuses offering a warm, romantic ambience on the breezy night.
Mr. Anubhav, who was assigned to manage this dinner, stood at a distance, enough to not overhear our conversation. Yet, he was instantly there to assist whenever we needed anything. He also politely shot some beautiful videos and photographs for us, going beyond his obvious duties. About the meal we enjoyed thereafter, we’ll talk about it in the upcoming food section.
# 4. Warmest staff and team members
We were actually in awe of Hyatt Place Hampi’s warm hospitality even before we reached the hotel. We had met with a minor accident while driving from Hyderabad to Hampi. When the front office team lead Mr. Anshuman called to check on our whereabouts, and learnt that we were delayed due to the accident, he displayed genuine concern. He also offered to send us a car with water and food! The kind gesture truly melted our hearts.
Similarly, every staff member made the stay experience truly special. Be it the housekeeping staff who added special decorative elements in our room, or housekeeping manager Mr. Vinod, who gave us insightful tours of the entire property and narrated stories of the hotel’s values. He informed how Hyatt Place has been doing their bit to support Hampi’s local community – from organizing tree plantation activities to cleaning drives.
Even the head chef Mr. Dhan was very kind to customize and put together vegan spreads for me, without compromising on the taste.
TWT Responsible Tourism Trivia: During a conversation with assistant GM Mr. Ravindranath, we learnt that the stylish banana fiber art, which makes the backdrop of the entire reception area, has been handcrafted and installed by local women using their age-old weaving techniques.

When we entered the room, our gaze immediately fell upon a series of towel origami that lay on the bed. The towels were rolled in the shapes of baby swans, adult swans and an elephant, surrounded by scattered flower petals.
Strips of coconut leaves at the bottom of the bed were put together to say — ‘Welcome to Hyatt’! 🙂
A framed photograph of Hampi’s boulders hung above the cozy bed, while the opposite wall painted in a bright cobalt-teal blue offered a dash of vibrance to the otherwise white room. Warm lighting lent a lustrous sheen to the room’s sleek interiors and matte soft wood furnishings.
A functional workstation on one corner also doubled up as a dining table for having meals within the comfort of the room. Next to the bed, there was a cozy blue sofa from where we could catch up on movies on their large flat screen TV.
When we drew the room’s curtains open, we found a gorgeous patio with a dedicated plunge pool. It was surrounded by lush green trees, adding a natural charm to the room. We spent some quiet time here, admiring the verdant scenery glowing under the sunlight.
TWT Tip: The patio is not fully private, as it is demarcated from the adjacent rooms’ patios only by a row of bushes, instead of a wall or fence. If you require more privacy, you could request the staff to put you up next to unoccupied rooms.
The room also had a wooden closet with ironing essentials, hair dryer and safe, coffee-tea sachets, kettle, and a mini refrigerator. The bathroom had a shower area separated by a glass door. All the toiletry essentials were there, including brushing kits, and shampoos and conditioners from Biotique, along with hot and cold water facilities.

The Food At Hyatt Place Hampi
The hotel offers a global menu with a variety of Indian, Continental and pan-Asian dishes that you can relish during your stay. Besides their à-la-carte menu and buffets, they also offer a grand South Indian platter. They can also customize your meals as per your dietary preferences.
One of the most interesting parts about their restaurant is that they have a large open kitchen with live counters, where you can see how your meal is being prepared. They also create several dishes using organic ingredients grown at the in-house orchard.
Here are the details of the food we tried at Hyatt Place Hampi:
South Indian platter:
- Rasam Soup – The mildly-spiced tomato-based rasam was served with a cute cylindrical Roasted Papad (sun-dried crackers). It was soothing for the palate as is and also paired well with steamed rice.
- Appe – Also known as Paniyaram or Ponganalu in other parts of South India, these are round balls made with fermented rice and urad dal batter. My personal favorite dish of this meal, their version was soft, light and fluffy. It also teamed beautifully with their coconut and tomato chutney.
- Masala Vada – These textured vadas (fried savory donuts) made with bengal gram were crisp and fried to perfection.
- Beans Carrot Coconut Palya – A staple in most South Indian meals, the stir-fried dish with slightly-tempered veggies and grated coconut was light and comforting, just the way it should be.
- Ladies Finger Fries – The mandatory dish is part of almost every meal served on special occasions. Their version of these deep-fried ladies fingers was seasoned and spiced perfectly. The accompanying peanuts were adding a nice crunch.
- Chitranna – This tart rice flavored with lemon was spot on, just like the one served at temples as prasadam.
- Spinach Dal – It had the comfort of a home-cooked dal, yet was packed with flavorful temperings, making for the perfect accompaniment with steamed rice.
- Sweet Pongal – Their version of Sakkara Pongal (moong dal and rice pudding), was sweetened with jaggery, lending a caramelized color and flavor to the dish. It was topped with roasted nuts, which offered texture to each bite.
À-la-carte orders:
- Chinese Toffee Banana – This dish requires precision and skilled hands while coating the batter-fried banana slices in sugar syrup. The chefs at Hyatt Place did a fabulous job, as the toffees were delicately crisp on the outside, soft inside, and had a beautiful caramelized flavor, with the toasted sesame seeds sprinkled on top adding hints of nuttiness.
- Khow Suey – The Burmese soupy noodles caused an explosion of flavors in the mouth. The freshness of corianders and spring onions, combined with the sweet subtlety of coconut milk cut down the heat of the green chili paste and spices perfectly. Garnished with crunchy fried onions and toasted peanuts, they made for a harmonious dance on the palate altogether.
- Chili Mushroom – A delightful combination of sweet and tangy, these crisp batter-fried mushrooms were sprinkled with sliced spring onions, onions and bell peppers, offering crunch with each bite.
- Veg Momos – The only dish that we felt had some scope for improvement, as the outer layer was not as soft as we expected it to be, and the filling could have oozed a tad bit stronger flavor notes.
Buffet breakfast:
The breakfast buffets included a huge spread of world cuisine, starting with a stall of local filter coffee and cutting chai (tea), followed by live counters in their open kitchen. Here, the chefs were seen frying hot pooris (puffed flat breads), vadas and dosas. There were also baked goodies, cereals, juices and fresh fruits.
Interestingly, a table was dedicated to Chinese dishes, which is unusual for a breakfast buffet. But we went in for a helping of the light and fragrant Veg Fried Rice one morning and delicate Soft Noodles the second morning. They were accompanied with soy sauce-based curries, which were absolutely delectable. We also tried Chole Bhatura, Masala Dosa, Alu Paratha and Sabudana Upma, which were all authentic and flavourful.
